I'm not a member; why am I getting Group e-mail?

  Group e-mail received by non-member

If you're not a member of a group and you've received an unwanted e-mail message from a group, your e-mail address must have been accidentally added to an MSN group. Go to the bottom of the e-mail message and click Unjoin to stop receiving unwanted group e-mails.

How do I join a Group?

 About group membership

Many groups allow you to enter the site and browse its contents without first joining the group, but unless you are a member you cannot participate in the group or interact with other members. Some groups do not even permit entry by non-members.

You can join a group by filling out an application to join or by responding to an invitation. Membership applications are either reviewed by the group manager for acceptance or are accepted automatically, depending on the group settings. As part of the membership process, you must agree to abide by the terms of the Code of Conduct.

Depending on the group settings chosen by the manager, group members can:

  • Chat with other members.
  • Post messages to the message board.
  • Post pictures and documents for others to view.
  • Receive group e-mail messages and announcements.

 What is a member profile?

Your member profile allows other group members to find out more about you. Your profile is based on your Member Directory public profile and can be changed at any time. When another member clicks on your nickname (MSN uses nicknames to provide each user with a unique identity across all MSN products and to help protect user privacy. You can change your nickname at any time.) , a Member Information page appears which can include such information as your role in the group, your real name, a photo, and your e-mail address.

How are the Member Tools used?

Member Tools provide information about the group and its members. People can also use Member Tools to change information about themselves.

 What is the Group Report?

The Group Report informs members about recent changes in the group (new members, new messages, new photos, new or updated lists, and so on). On the E-mail Settings page, you can choose to receive the report daily, weekly, or not at all.

Note

You can join up to 100 groups for each Microsoft Passport Network account you have.

How do I change my group e-mail options?

 Change your group e-mail options

  1. Go to the E-mail Settings page.
     To get there
    1. In the left pane, click Manager Tools or Member Tools. (If the page you are currently on has no left pane, click Back until you reach a page that does.)
    2. Click Check Your E-mail Settings.
  2. Review your options, make any changes you want, and then click Save Changes.

When you adjust your e-mail settings for a group, you can decide how you want to view the messages. For example, you can:

  • Receive every new message separately in your Inbox.
  • Receive a daily digest in your Inbox that contains all of the day's messages.
  • Look at messages online in the message board.
  • Look through multiple discussion threads on a single screen.

How do I properly sign in to a Group?

Sign in using your Microsoft Passport Network account

  1. Go to the Microsoft Passport Network (An online service that makes it possible for you to use your e-mail address and a single password to sign in to any Passport Network-participating Web site or service.) Sign-in page.
     To get there
Click the Passport Network sign-in button at the top right of any MSN Groups page, or click the sign-in button on any page that prompts you to sign in.
  2. In the E-mail Address box, type your complete e-mail address.

    For instance, someone@example.com.

  3. In the Password box, type your password.
  4. Click Sign In (Windows XP users click OK).

Note

When you sign in to one Passport Network-enabled site, you will be signed in to all Passport Network-enabled sites.
