MSN is in total control of all commercial advertisements that you see here at Freedom, including ad selection and their placement.  MSN receives 100% of all advertising proceeds. Freedom’s management team and members  are all volunteers.  No manager or member has ever received any money for any service or work performed at this site, either by any type of sponsorship or by any type of donation from any source.  For the record, www.whyquit,com also has not received any financial support, donation or income and we are not now seeking any kind of support or donation from any outside group, nor from any of our members.

Freedom and its Management Team do not endorse any product, service or organization advertising through MSN.  Even if the sponsor is an organization such as the American Cancer Society, Lung Association or Heart Association we in no way endorse them or any of their views when it comes to smoking cessation. If members desire to donate to help our cause we ask that you consider donating a bit of free time to help new people at the board.

When it comes to making financial donations toward any MSN “sponsored sites” because of the organization's work in the  smoking cessation field, Freedom's Management recommends that you consider a charity that would more effectively utilize your gift.  Money put toward smoking cessation efforts by almost all major health organizations of the world are almost all aimed at promoting NRT and other pharmacological products, with very little being put toward engaging in the meaningful education process needed to help the masses to quit smoking.

These organizations may do good work on other fronts, and we are not telling people who have been helped by these organizations not to donate to them for the other work they may do in prevention, research and services to patients, but if the motivating factor for giving a donation is for the work they are doing on smoking cessation, we’d suggest skipping the donation. Actually, the only corporation that makes our work possible is MSN for providing the forum space.

Also, being that we don’t want diversions and controversies on the board, in the future we will not debate the merits or detriments of corporations who show up as sponsors. If we see a post referring to a problem with any sponsored site we will delete it and bring up this post that talks about our feelings to these advertising tactics.

Two exceptions to this issue - if a tobacco company ever shows up as a sponsor selling any kind of tobacco product or if a pharmaceutical company ever shows up as a sponsor with any mention of a so called cessation product. In that event we will bring up lots of materials making it clear that the products involved are quite worthless and possibly dangerous to people’s health and to their quits and that the only thing that a person has to "buy" to quit smoking is to “buy into the concept” that to quit smoking and to stay free is to simply stick to his or her commitment to Never Take Another Puff!

Thank you,

Freedom's Management Team
