Wicca & Earthbound paths Wica , ( yes I did spell it like that on purpose!), contrary to popular belief is a very modern path and was developed in the 1950’s. It is based on two well known witchcraft traditions and other magical societies. In the 1950's witchcraft was just becoming able to be legally practiced in the UK. Witchcraft was around long before Wica but because it was illegal it was shrouded in secrecy and it is very difficult to obtain original writings. Wica was developed with the aim of being easily understood and available to all those who may be interested, but it still maintains many traditional beliefs. Wica is an evolving path and is now referred to as Wicca (from old English word for witchcraft). There are (after only 50 years) many different paths within Wicca, all are accepted by each other. The common teachings found in all Wicca traditions are the following of the Wiccan rede or credo, honouring deity/deities (Your Patron deity is totally personal to your preference although both male & female aspects are acknowledged throughout Wicca), and the fact that all paths (including non wicca traditions) are acknowledged as being equal. That said you must choose what feels right and cast off what feels wrong. Not all aspects of Wicca are for everyone & here we cast off anything to do with the dark arts or anything not in line with the Wiccan Credo.
