The twelve remaining letters are called the twelve "Elementals," and correspond to the twelve Jewish months. Nissan (March-April) is hei.

The three "Mother" letters correspond to the seasons of the year. The summer (three months of Tamuz, Av, Elul), is represented by the letter shin (letter of fire) the winter (three months of Tevet, Shevat, Adar) by mem (letter of water) and the two intermediate seasons of spring (three months of Nissan, Iyar, Sivan) and fall (three months of Tishrei, Cheshvan, Kislev) by alef (letter of air). Therefore, every day is represented by three letters.
